Abstract Scope |
The Department of Energy (DOE) has reviewed the current minimum transformer efficiency levels and has revised the regulations to align with global standards. The increase in efficiency levels will aid the adoption of amorphous steel domestically and help alleviate the supply constraints currently seen in grain oriented electrical steels. Soft magnetic materials are increasingly needed for decarbonization efforts and have recently been placed on the DOE’s critical materials list. The demand for grain oriented and non-oriented electrical steels is growing with the national electrification goals, yet the domestic production capacity remains limited. Here we will show how the adoption of amorphous steel for distribution transformer will supplement the domestic supply chain. |
