Abstract Scope |
The demand for copper is increasing steadily and will accelerate as the electrification of the transport sector moves forward. At the same time, copper ore availability and quality is trending negatively. Future copper ores are lower in grade and are increasing in complexity especially with respect to content of contaminants such as arsenic.
Hydrometallurgical extraction is an ideal method to meet the challenge of lower grade and increasing complexity. A range of hydrometallurgical ore treatment methods and concentrate processing methods are emerging to provide options to the copper industry to ensure that copper can be sourced and produced economically and sustainably.
New developments in ore treatment and concentrate processing will be reviewed, compared and contrasted. |
