Abstract Scope |
Manufacturing and recycling processes for Li-ion batteries are fast evolving to meet the stringent performance and cost demands of electric vehicles. The microstructure of electrodes and the morphology of electrode particles play an important role in the performance of cells and efficacy of manufacturing and recycling methods. Thus, achieving a quantitative understanding of the electrode and particle morphologies as they relate to cell performance is critical for guiding manufacturing and recycling processes. This talk will focus on the use of X-ray nano-computed tomography for characterizing electrode microstructures and particle morphologies, with the goal of guiding manufacturing and recycling processes at scale. Novel image-based quantitative analyses shed new light on the role of morphology in battery performance, manufacturing, and recycling. |
