Abstract Scope |
SrTiO3 (STO) is a versatile perovskite that exhibits a diverse range of electrical and magnetic properties, making it a subject of great technological interest, especially in the field of energy storage and electronics. In this study, we investigate the temperature-dependent elastic properties of STO using time-domain Brillouin scattering (TDBS), a nondestructive laser-based technique that can measure elastic constant through the generation of acoustic waves. We focus on capturing the Antiferrodistortive (AFD) phase transition that occurs at approximately 105K, accompanied by a stark change in the elastic constant. This second-order cubic-to-tetragonal structural transition is characterized by the antiphase rotation of the TiO6 octahedra in adjacent unit cells. Moreover, the time-resolved signals from our measurements were significantly damped near the transition temperature, indicating the softening of the phonon modes. Our study provides insight into the phonon modes near transition temperature, a crucial aspect for understanding the structural instabilities associated with AFD transition. |
