Abstract Scope |
Slip localizations that intensify upon load reversal are key sites of fatigue initiation. In this work, we investigate the propensity of slip localization intensification using a discrete crystallographic slip band model within a 3D spatially resolved crystal plasticity technique. In prior work, this model was validated by comparison with experimental observations in a wide range of face centered cubic and hexagonal close packed materials. Simulations with this model are used to predict the formation and evolution of slip bands in face centered cubic Ni-based superalloys. Local slip system activity and stress in the vicinity of a slip band both within a parent grain and neighboring grains are considered. We discuss the impact of microstructure factors like parent grain size and neighboring grain morphology on slip band intensification. |
