Abstract Scope |
Electropulsing treatment is a promising technology for controlling the phase transition during the solidification of melts owing to its electric and thermal effects. In this study, the influence of EPT on the crystallization properties and melt structure of a calcium silicate-based mold flux was investigated. The results shown that: after electro-pulsing treatment, the precipitated grains are transformed from fine to massive, and the overall crystallinity increases obviously. Besides, the precipitation content of Alumoakermanite increases, while that of Cuspidine decreases. With rise of pulse widths, the precipitated phase gradually changed into massive, and the average grain size increased, but effect on the precipitated phase content was not obvious. The addition of electro-pulsing has an additional contribution ΔGE to crystal nucleation, influencing the free energy of nucleation. The precipitated phase is controlled by diffusion reaction when the melt is not treated by electro-pulsing, while controlled by interface reaction by electro-pulsing. |
