Abstract Scope |
Structural flexibility and chemical diversity enabled by the Zintl-Klemm concept, has allowed incorporation of various dopants at the anionic and cationic sites in Mg3Sb2 based Zintl compounds. In this study, we investigate the dopability of anionic framework [Mg2Sb2]2− and cationic Mg2+ layer of Mg3Sb2 for potential p-type dopants to regulate and enhance their doping efficacy for p-type conduction. The compensation effects, site-preferences, and competing phases were analysed to demonstrate solubility limit of various dopants and their efficacy for maximizing the thermoelectric figure of merit (zT). The prospects of non-equilibrium synthesis and co-doping strategies were also discussed to attain optimal hole concentration by overcoming the low density of states near the valence band maximum. This work reviews and highlights our progress in doping pristine Mg3Sb2 based Zintl compounds for attaining enhanced p-type thermoelectric performance. |
