Abstract Scope |
This work broadly addresses two pressing challenges in metal Additive Manufacturing. First part discusses a laser-based DED AM system. The modular and open architecture design of the system allows easy configurability and customization of the system. The system is fully benchmarked for the thermal field and powder feed rate, devising an 'operating map' using analytical and numerical modelling. Further, the system capabilities have been demonstrated viz. graded material deposition, in situ alloying and mixing etc. In the second part, we have explored ‘abrasion' as a solid-state powder production method. We could successfully produce perfectly spherical powders in ferrous alloys and examined the mechanism behind their formation. The study has led to unravel some of the fundamental question pertaining to powders and can be extended for space grade materials. Further, these powders are successfully processed using the developed system. |
