Abstract Scope |
The platforms of removable partial dentures (RPDs) are traditionally crafted from metal using casting methods. Additive manufacturing (AM) presents an opportunity to improve the quality and speed of RPD production, offering better customization for individual patients. The mechanical properties of these platforms are critical due to the repeated loading they endure. In metal AM, the formation of columnar microstructures often impacts mechanical properties adversely. This study explores the potential of metallic materials in AM to promote equiaxed-grain microstructures, leveraging their unique characteristics for improved performance. Using the BeAM Modulo 250 V1.0 direct energy deposition metal 3D printer, cubic samples with varying process parameters were produced. The results demonstrated that a dense sample with a fine-grain microstructure could be achieved, indicating a significant enhancement in the mechanical properties and overall durability of RPDs produced through AM techniques. |
