Abstract Scope |
Al-Ce alloys are of interest for high temperature structural applications. In the present study, Al-6Ce-9Cu-3Zr and Al-15Ce-a1Zr alloys were investigated for further improvement in the high temperature mechanical properties. The effect of cooling rate during casting was investigated to further refine the microstructure. In addition, additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) was used to refine the microstructure and ensure uniform distribution of the intermetallic particles, followed by aging treatments to enhance mechanical properties via precipitation strengthening. It was found that higher cooling rates during casting, as well as AFSD and aging improved the mechanical properties of the material at both room and elevated temperatures. The results will be presented and discussed.
