Abstract Scope |
In the past copper was primarily used for current-conducting components. Due to the high material prices and limited availability of copper, aluminum appears as a great alternative, especially since weight-specific higher electrical conductivity is achievable and the lightweight construction is optimized.
Within the development, the alloying elements and their solution state have the key role in reducing electrical resistance. Additionally, very good processing properties can be achieved, whereby the material must not be too soft and still has good bendability. During the production process these properties generated via a new solution heat treatment approach and subsequent over-aging.
Results showed the new material achieves an electrical conductivity of 58 %IACS and achieves a 180° bend according to ASTM E290 (bending factor N=1). This aluminum alloy is therefore ideal for use of bus bar in EV batteries or other current-conducting applications such as EV charging stations. |
