Abstract Scope |
Created in 1945, IRSID (Institut de Recherches de La Siderurgie Française) was the collective research center of the French steel industry for about 60 years. It became later the main research center of the steel group ArcelorMittal. It was first located in St Germain en Laye, near Paris. Later a new center with pilot facilities was built in the East of France where the majority of steel plants where located.
Research programs were on steel properties and process control followed by process modelling. The quality of the research, the size of the institute and the expertise of their teams attracted researchers from all over the world.
The talk will trace the history of IRSID giving several examples from process modelling, metallurgical innovations and new or modified processes linked to the development of the steel industry in France. |
