    | Abstract Scope |

I will present the synthesis and crystallographic studies (powder X-ray diffraction) of the new binary intermetallic compound NpIr3. This is the first material of the AIr3 family, where A is the actinide metal. NpIr3 forms in the R-3m rhombohedral structure (PuNi3 type) similar to REIr3, where RE = La, Ce, Pr, Nd and Sm. The results of low temperature physical properties of NpIr3, i.e. magnetic susceptibility and specific heat, will also be presented and compared to the lanthanide base REIr3 compounds. |
