Abstract Scope |
Sheet metal surfaces are generally textured to improve lubrication and control friction in deep drawing applications. In the current study, sheet surface texture design is optimized in order to have a robust frictional behavior during forming processes given a range of process parameters such as contact pressure, equivalent strain in the sheet metal, etc. The optimization further accounts for the uncertainties such as tool wear, variations in the texture parameters due to wear on texture rolls and amount of lubricant. For this purpose, a multi-scale friction model was developed and validated compared to full-scale forming processes. The friction model in combination with a surface generating algorithm are used to optimize the individual crater shape parameters and their spacing in a deterministic surface texture. The objective is to achieve pre-defined values of friction coefficient which are robust to potential variations in tool roughness, lubricant amount, contact pressure and strain. |
