Abstract Scope |
This work presents a coupled phase-field fracture (PFF) and crystal plasticity (CP) model to analyze single crystal deformation and failure. A dislocation dynamic based single crystal constitutive model is used for the CP method. Failure and void growth are modeled using an anisotropic PFF method. The PFF model consider both the stored energy due to elastic stretching and energy release due to plastic defect formation as well as crack formation. A single crystal Al-6061 with a spherical void is chosen to analyze the void growth and validated against the experimental data for a range of different crystal orientations. The void growth is found to be correlated to the crystal orientations. This coupled CP-PFF model can be used for failure prediction in crystalline materials and for generating data for machine learning models. SNL is managed and operated by NTESS under DOE NNSA contract DE-NA0003525. |
