Abstract Scope |
Tungsten coating is planned to be a protective layer on the structural steel (EUROFER97) in the First Wall of the DEMOnstration power plant. The mismatch between the coefficient of thermal expansion of W and steel is very high, it leads to failure due to high thermal stress. This issue is solved by a functionally graded W/EUROFER interlayer between W topcoat and steel.
Determination of interface properties plays a vital role in the prediction of coating life during operation. In this work, a method to detect interface delamination by phased array ultrasonic testing has been developed. It is difficult to check the interface of large coated parts, so a C-scan based method is used. Interface bending tests are performed in parallel to determine the interface toughness of W/EUROFER coating on a steel substrate. The combination of these two methods gives the overall characteristics of the interface. |
