Abstract Scope |
Forming thin high-strength steel sheets enables manufacturing of lightweight and structurally resistant vehicle constructions. However, conventional forming of such materials is limited due to the high process forces and springback phenomena of produced sheet metal parts. Therefore, this paper first provides experimental and numerical research on advanced material modelling of high-strength steels (DP800, DP1000) and its calibration on buckling tests. Subsequently, the resulting material model is used for a numerical study on the sensitivity of tool and process parameters for a newly developed sheet metal forming process, Transversal Compression Drawing (TCD). This process represents a modification of conventional deep drawing of open profiles by substituting the blankholder by L-shaped sliders. The vertically and horizontally acting forces applied along the blank edge by these sliders lead to a stress superposition by a free buckling and rolling of the material onto lateral punch surfaces, which reduces process forces and springback effects. |
