Abstract Scope |
Our study focused on to how to form uniform carbon coatings on NaCrO2 and what effects of a uniform carbon coating has on electrochemical properties of NaCrO2. Our investigation led to five major findings: (i) wet solution carbon coating approach can offer uniform carbon coatings, (ii) with uniform carbon coatings the specific capacity of NaCrO2 can be improved to 140 mAh/g, the highest capacity ever reported in the literature, (iii) the typical specific capacity 110 mAh/g reported in the literature is limited by the rates of redox reactions at the electrode/electrolyte interface, (iv) uniform carbon coatings do not change the electrochemical potentials of NaCrO2 redox reactions, and (v) a uniform carbon coating alone is not sufficient to prevent capacity decay over cycles. These findings offer guidelines for enhancing the electrochemical properties of NaCrO2 in the near future. |
