Abstract Scope |
Functional trimethylsilane (TMS) plasma nanocoatings were applied onto cobalt chromium (CoCr) L605 cardiovascular stents to improve their biocompatibility, and onto silver nanowires (AgNWs) to improve their electrical stability. Our experimental results show that biocompatible TMS plasma nanocoatings were achieved on CoCr L605 cardiovascular stents by TMS plasma nanocoatings with controlled thickness followed by a subsequent NH3/O2 plasma post-treatment. Such TMS plasma nanocoatings had hydrophilic surfaces containing mainly Si, C, O and a small amount of N elements. Application of TMS plasma nanocoatings onto AgNWs induced a little increase up to ~25% on their electrical resistance, but effectively protected them from degradation and improved their electrical stability. Application of the TMS plasma nanocoatings were found to provide surface passivation for both CoCr L605 cardiovascular stents and AgNWs and protect them from corrosion or oxidation. |
