Abstract Scope |
Stress distributions and the evolving fracture patterns in the microstructures strongly influence the load-carrying capabilities of composite structures. This work presents an interface decohesion-enhanced phase field-driven fracture model for simulating the fracture propagation and interactions on the material interfaces and within the constituents of composite microstructures. In the proposed method, an interface-modified reproducing kernel (IM-RK) approximation for cross-interface discontinuities is constructed based on image voxels and guided by Support Vector Machine (SVM) material classification. The proposed method is demonstrated by its ability in modeling crack growth along interfaces and across matrix and inclusion domains, as well as the corresponding structural-scale mechanical behavior in the composite structures. |
