Conventional yield functions are usually linked to specific processes and materials for which they are known to be reliable. The more advanced ones contain several adjustable parameters that have been introduced to increase their flexibility. However, finding the best combination of those parameters is usually not straightforward, and the proposed values in the literature are typically process and/or material dependent. We propose a generic and robust yield function, Facet 3D, which is fitted to virtual experimental data, and is designed for generalized plane stress conditions in sheet metal forming simulations. In the present study, the accuracy and performance of Facet 3D are evaluated for cup drawing simulations of two AA6016-T4 alloys with an in-house software coupled to Abaqus/Explicit and with AutoForm R10. The resulting cup height profiles and punch forces are compared with those obtained with the general Facet 5D and the phenomenological yield functions available in AutoForm R10. |
