Abstract Scope |
Uranium Nitride is a potential fuel for many advanced reactors, from larger Gen-IV to small and modular microreactors. However, its deployment as a commercial fuel is a challenge from the traditional qualification method point of view. To over come that the nuclear community is engaging in the development of a new qualification framework, named Accelerated Fuel Qualification (AFQ). To support this separate-effect test are primordial to support/qualify advanced modeling outputs. UN-based simfuel fits in this requirement. Here U(X)N-based materials with X= Zr, Nb, Mo and Ru were fabricated using advanced methods as Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) and characterize to provide information on; phase equilibria, solid swelling and thermal expansion. The initial characterization and phases evaluation are presented here. |
