Abstract Scope |
μISF is an emerging technology that provides a cost-efficient solution to the growing demand of mass-customization in medical, electronics and aerospace industries. Though process flexibility is an advantage of μISF, achieving acceptable geometric and mechanical properties is a difficult task. Sheet spring-back and tool deflection are known reasons for poor dimensional accuracy in ISF. The specimen grain size and material anisotropy play a major role in part precision in μISF. In this study, a FE model for spring-back prediction is developed and experimentally validated using an in-house developed μISF setup. Tensile tests are conducted with AL 5052-H19 to calibrate a material model. Measurement of forming forces and part profiles show considerable differences along rolling and transverse directions. These differences in cross-section profiles can be attributed to dissimilar sheet spring-back in these directions. Understanding this effect will aid in designing a spring-back compensation strategy and producing parts with acceptable geometric accuracy. |
