Abstract Scope |
Both natural and manmade materials show unique characteristics. Engineered materials usually pursuits the development of extreme properties beyond the natural limits. Those engineered material generally shows determined (or fixed) properties. However, the recent studies on the engineered materials shows the active control of material characteristics changes in a wide range because changing the material properties will be more useful for fast changing dynamic environments and purposes. In this seminar, I will try to introduce our recent series of studies on the active control/change of material characteristics/properties (including color, shape, stiffness, temperature etc.) for diverse targets as follows, (1) Color-change: camouflage skin, chameleon soft robot, (2) Shape-change: morphing or actuation of bioinspired soft robotics, (3) Stiffness-change: variable stiffness, (4) Temperature-change: artificial cold/hot sensation for VR/AR, (5) Pore-change: smart air filter with variable pore size, (6) Along with the material and fabrication development, related applications will be presented as well. |
