Abstract Scope |
Cast aluminum alloys have widespread applications for structural components in automobiles for lightweighting and energy efficiency improvement. The increased application of lightweight aluminum castings in critical structures requires improved quality, with more reliable and quantifiable performance. These requirements are made more challenging by the complexity of aluminum shape casting processing, which involves many competing mechanisms, multi-physics phenomena, and potentially large uncertainties. This paper reviews the latest developments and applications of through-process modeling of local mechanical properties of aluminum shape castings from alloy composition to multi-scale microstructure. Possible factors affecting modeling accuracy are discussed. |
