Abstract Scope |
For the sake of lightweight, pure metal structures are more and more replaced by adapted combinations of metals and polymers, e.g. for sheet structures, with properties, a mono-material is unable to fulfill. These structures have to bare the load as compression, tension, and shear. Therewith the necessity is given for a proper bonding between these – incompatible by nature – materials.
Different methods for influencing and improving the bonding quality when combining metal and polymer sheets to sandwiches and their effects on the bonding strength, defined by shear tests, are presented and classified. Besides using a promoter, e.g. an epoxy, mechanical treatments show a clear influence on the quality of the bond, as well as laser treatments. |
