Abstract Scope |
A novel 4-point bending (4PB) testing platform has been developed by Dynamic Systems Inc. (DSI) to rapidly measure the flexural properties of ultra-high-temperature ceramics (UHTCs) at temperatures up to 2500°C. The novel design allows for high test throughput, achieving rates of more than one test per hour at 2000°C while strictly adhering to ASTM standards. In this study testing throughput rates were validated and flexural data for tantalum carbide (TaC) was collected at ambient temperature, 1200°C, and 1500°C and benchmarked against data from established high-temperature UHTC testing laboratories. |
