Abstract Scope |
In light water reactor (LWR) UO2, restructuring caused by radial burnup and temperature gradients results in the formation of varied regional microstructures. A previous electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) investigation of high burnup structure (HBS) formation mechanisms found four distinct microstructural regions based on grain size and boundary characteristics across the radius of a LWR UO2 pellet. In this work, we compare the microstructural evolution of the pellet in the previous investigation to additional LWR UO2 samples. The different power histories of the samples result in unique microstructural evolution profiles that add to the understanding of how LWR UO2 responds to different temperature and burnup conditions. |
