Abstract Scope |
A novel polycrystalline nickel-based superalloy was investigated to ascertain the effects of hot corrosion at 700°C. This study aims to determine the pit morphology at the surface of the alloy when exposed to four different variants of salt; pure Na2SO4, 98%Na2SO4 – 2%NaCl and two Na2SO4 – MgSO4 compositions. For each variant two distinct SO2 concentrations of 20 and 300ppm were investigated. Additionally, the quantity of salt deposited on the sample was varied to establish the sensitivity of its relationship with pit morphology. These results corroborate with previous studies to characterise the extent of damage induced via in-service conditions to be experienced by next generation turbine disc alloys. |
