Abstract Scope |
Spodumene is a mineral originating from different production processes, its application in the development of new materials is an alternative that is being investigated. Therefore, the objective of this work is to investigate the potential of using waste spodumene from port activities as a partial replacement for natural aggregates in mortars, enhancing its sustainable use. Prismatic specimens (40 x 40 x 160 mm) were molded, consisting of Portland cement, natural sand, and hydrated lime, in addition to the residue in different aggregate replacement levels. For this purpose, the normative parameters of consistency, water retention, incorporated air content, mechanical strength, water absorption, mass density, and linear retraction were evaluated. The results showed that spodumene promoted an improvement in some properties, such as an increase of approximately 12% in mechanical strength, in addition to satisfactorily meeting general regulatory requirements in the evaluated parameters. |
