Abstract Scope |
The Recrystallization-stop temperature (T5%) of Five different HSLA steels have been determined using double hit tests under axisymmetric compression. The double hit experiments were carried out in a Gleeble® 3800 thermomechanical processing simulator at an interpass time of 20 seconds in the range of 900°C to 1050 °C, a strain rate of 10 sec-1, and a total true strain of 0.6. The fractional softening of the investigated steels was estimated using a 2%-offset method and a 5%-true strain method. Following this, the results of fractional softening were compared to the prior austenite grain boundaries, where the pancaking of austenite grains indicates unrecrystallized grains. The results indicate that T5% increases with increasing Nb level in austenite and it is believed to be due to strain-induced precipitation of NbC in austenite. This might cause less complete recrystallization at higher deformation temperatures, thus, lead to a duplex austenite microstructure prior to transformation. |
