Abstract Scope This study presents a comprehensive investigation into the creation and characterization of porous membranes composed of bacterial cellulose (BC) and sodium alginate (ALG), enriched with bioproducts derived from fishing industry waste and biological disposal. Specifically, these membranes incorporate soluble proteins from the vitreous humor of Thunnus albacares (tuna) and extracellular vesicles (EV) from dental pulp. The membranes were thoroughly characterized regarding their morphology, physicochemical properties, in vitro cytotoxicity, and potential for promoting injury regeneration in mammalian epithelial cell lines. They exhibited high porosity levels, which are essential for cell infiltration and nutrient exchange, along with significant water absorption capacity. None of the formulations demonstrated cytotoxicity, confirming their safety for biomedical applications. The incorporation of vitreous humor and extracellular vesicles not only improved the physical properties of the membranes but also significantly enhanced their regenerative potential, positioning them as promising candidates for advanced wound care applications.
