Abstract Scope |
We present the oxidation behavior of a several multi-principal element alloys (MPEA) and high-entropy carbides (HEC) in dry and humid conditions for a range of temperature conditions. The test coupons were produced by either arc melting or high-energy ball milling followed by spark plasma sintering. The test coupons were exposed in the temperature range of 800-1500 °C and weight change was monitored using thermo-gravimetric analysis. The oxidation behavior is understood in terms of appropriate, linear or parabolic models. Structural characterization of the oxide films in terms of crystal structure and composition are carried out using X-ray and electron diffraction, and energy dispersive spectroscopy, respectively. A systematic correlation between microstructure and oxidation behavior is thus discussed. |
