Abstract Scope |
Recently, Fe-Al-Si intermetallic compounds have received substantial attention for their potential in thermoelectric applications due to the abundance of constituent elements, their environmentally friendly nature, and easy tunable thermoelectric properties. In this study, we use a high-energy ball milling method to synthesize a single-phase Fe-Al-Si compound, namely Fe3Al2Si3. Subsequently, a custom-built binder jet printer is used to fabricate green parts. Sintering experiments are carried out at 900 °C for up to 4 h under a controlled atmosphere. The aim of this research is to study the printability of thermoelectric compounds, the impacts of binder and potential carbon/oxygen contamination on the final phase formation and purity, evolution in shape and fraction of porosity, and thermoelectric properties of the additively manufactured parts. The difficulties of using additive manufacturing for thermoelectric materials and challenges are also addressed. |
