Abstract Scope |
Electrospray is an electrohydrodynamic atomization process that subjects a liquid to a strong electric field, causing the liquid to be drawn from the source in the form of small droplets. This process could be used on liquid metals to produce small liquid metal droplets. The surface that the liquid in the electrospray process forms into is known as the Taylor cone. One method of simulating this process is through COMSOL, a Multiphysics software. By simulating a charged needle holding liquid metal, opposite from a counter-electrode, the Taylor cone formation of different materials under different parameters can be studied. These models utilize the two-phase laminar flow with moving mesh physics modules, as well as the electrostatics and electric current modules, to model the electrospray process with water, gallium, and nickel under varying conditions. |
