Abstract Scope |
The investigation of a Medium Entropy Alloy (MEA) with known Short-Range Ordering (SRO) at room temperature via Low-Cycle-Fatigue (LCF) is presented. LCF tests are coupled with ex-situ High Energy X-Ray Synchrotron Pair Distribution Function (xPDF) from BL08W at Spring-8, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) to obtain information on structural changes due to fatigue and subsequent LCF induced Phase transformation. Here, not only do we demonstrate severe mechanical anisotropy as the driver of LCF phase transformation and subsequent asymmetric LCF failure mechanism, but also how the LCF behavior of an MEA with SRO can outperform even high-performing conventional alloys such as 9Cr Steel. |
