Abstract Scope |
Al-Si alloys has been widely used many applications such as automotive and aerospace industries. Improvement in microstructure with refinement and modification enhances mechanical properties. This can be provided with chemical alloying and/or heat treatment. The rare earth (RE) elements have been getting more popular due to their efficiency with small amount addition. In this study, the effect of heat treatment was investigated with the minor addition of rare earth elements Erbium (Er) and Europium (Eu) at different rates to A356 alloy, A206 and A201 alloys. The increase in the number and size of intermetallic with the addition of Er and Eu was associated with negative mechanical properties for A201 and A206 whereas enhanced properties were achieved with A356. |
