Abstract Scope |
The CALPHAD (Calculation of Phase Diagram) method, which emerged as a method for calculating phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of multicomponent systems, has gone far beyond its original scope. Through implementing kinetic models and developing mobility database using the similar strategy to the development of a thermodynamic database, the CALPHAD-based simulation tools have been successfully used for kinetic simulations of diffusion-controlled metallurgical processes. In addition, by integrating CALPHAD method with those for simulating microstructural evolution, such as phase field method (PFM), we can now simulate phase transformation and microstructural evolution of complicated multicomponent alloys. In this presentation, we will use examples to demonstrate the extended capability of CALPHAD-based tools in understanding diffusion-controlled kinetics and microstructural evolution. Multicomponent alloys, such as Ti-based and Ni-based alloys will be used in the examples. |
