Presentation Title A Strategy for Reaching Net Zero

Abstract Scope Climate change is already clearly noticeable: an extreme example was the drought in northern Italy followed by severe flooding. This shows the need for decarbonization of the industry. In this paper a strategy is presented to reduce the emissions of a fully integrated flexible packaging plant (rolling mill, converting, printing, finishing) from over 30000 tons of CO2 p.a. to 0 tons in less than 20 years. The basis is an in-depth analysis of the energy flows and their digitalization in order to establish an efficient energy management system. Based on this, essential core elements for the consistent avoidance of emissions are the reduction of input materials, recycling of input materials and the use of biogenic input materials. The concepts of solvent recovery, biogenic solvents and energy generation using biogenic feedstocks will be presented in detail.
