Abstract Scope |
This study employs an electric field to join Titanium (Ti) metal sandwiched between two pre-sintered Titanium dioxide (TiO2) pellets using Direct Current (DC). Joule heating enables rapid diffusion across the layers, resulting in a reliable and continuous interface. The current direction affects the anodic interface more detrimentally than the cathodic interface, leading to superior mechanical properties at the cathodic interface. This behavior is attributed to the concentration of oxygen vacancies at the anodic interface. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Raman analysis confirm a higher concentration of oxygen vacancies at the anodic interface. The study highlights the directional impact of current on joining ceramics to metals, achieving superior structural integrity in complex multi-layered sandwich structures. |
