Abstract Scope |
There is an increasing interest to improve the physical properties of ferritic/martensitic steels by optimizing the microstructure using heat treatment under external magnetic field. This systematic study investigates the effects of tempering under external magnetic field on the structure and properties of HT9. A custom-built heat treatment system inside a superconducting magnet is used to temper and then systematically study the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloys as functions of tempering temperature, time, and magnetic field of up to 700C, 120 minutes, and 9 T respectively. External magnetic field strength-microstructure-physical properties relationships of ferritic/martensitic steels will be discussed. |
