Abstract Scope Fusion energy poses unprecedented challenges for materials due to the combination of harsh environments, presenting significant hurdles for both science and engineering. Among these challenges are the combined effects of helium and displacement damage, which can significantly alter material properties and structures. To study these phenomena, we utilize a helium ion beam microscope to conduct comprehensive micro-implantation studies on a suite of materials representing different classes. In this presentation, we will demonstrate the development of helium bubble superlattices and amorphization as a function of dose. Furthermore, we will present a detailed investigation of the changes in mechanical properties as a function of helium dose, quantified through small-scale mechanical testing techniques. Our findings reveal critical insights into how helium implantation impacts material integrity, offering valuable data for the development of more resilient materials for fusion energy applications.
