Abstract Scope |
A series of new Fe-rich (> 85 at. %) alloys containing non-critical rare earths (RE), have been explored in quaternary Ce-Fe-Zr-RM (RM = V-a and VI-a group refractory metals) systems. Arc melting the elements followed by an anneal at 1050 °C produced tetragonal ThMn12-type, uniaxial ferromagnets in a particular phase region. Their room temperature intrinsic magnetic characteristics vary within the ranges: Ms ⁓ 10 - 11 kG, TC ⁓ 140 - 155 °C, Ha ⁓ 35 - 40 kOe. High intrinsic properties and absence of critical rare earths make these alloys promising replacement candidates for commercial RE-magnets using supply-dependent elements like Nd, Dy, Sm and/or Co. The present study explores the composition-dependent structural changes of these newly developed alloys in relation with their magnetic properties. |
