Abstract Scope |
Czochralski silicon (CZ-Si) has served the optoelectronic industry for many decades and is still of top importance to the solar cell devices. Cz-Si however, known to be inferior to III-V counterparts in bandgap emission efficiency. In this work, we will present methodologies to enhance the bandgap emission from ordinary low-doped Cz-Si by coating the Si-surface with sol-gel prepared silica. The team will also present the results using other dielectrics including zinc-oxide and SiO2-ZnO mixture coatings. The presentation will also reveal a new nature of the radiative recombination activities when using sol-gel silica coatings that is dominated by correlated carrier recombination. To elaborate on this unorthodox property, the presentation will include deconvolution of room-temperature photoluminescence results for thermally oxidized p-type Cz-Si and n-type Cz-Si and showing that majority of the radiative recombination activities are from uncorrelated carriers. Effect of ZnO coatings on bandgap optical properties will be presented. |
