Abstract Scope |
Over recent years the importance of local structure to alloy properties, particularly the high entropy alloys, has become a significant and outstanding question in the metallurgical field. Historically the lack of investigation has primarily been due to the lack of suitable experimental probes capable of directly measuring the local structure. This is further coupled with inconsistencies in quantifiers used for assessing the various types and quantities of local structure in a system.
In this talk I will discuss how total scattering (and pair distribution function [PDF] analysis) can be used in conjunction with large box modelling (reverse Monte Carlo techniques) to provide insight into local structure in metallics systems. This will also include proposed analysis of the local structure, including methods for quantifying short-range order (and the applicability to different types of short-range order) and local lattice strains within a system. |
