Abstract Scope |
As a typical aluminum-silicon casting alloy, A356 has excellent strength and toughness after T6 heat treatment, and is often used in automotive parts. In order to study the microstructure and mechanical properties of A356 after heat treatment, castings in different thickness were obtained by stair casting and T6 heat treatment. The samples of different casting thicknesses and sampling locations were selected, and the microstructure and performance of the samples in as-cast and T6 treated condition were compared. The results show that cooling rate can directly affect SDAS, while the proportion of eutectic phase has an obvious effect on tensile strength. T6 heat treatment can greatly reduce and refine the inter-dendrite eutectic structure. The tensile strength and elongation of A356 alloy are improved after heat treatment. And it is found that the relationship between microstructure and properties can be characterized by Hall-Petch formula. |
