Abstract Scope |
Tuning interfacial sink efficiency in polycrystalline metals toward radiation tolerant microstructures has been a long standing goal within the nuclear energy and related communities. In recent years, the understanding that grain boundaries exhibit various “states” through which they can cycle in response to radiation has been utilized as a baseline for such tuning. In the face of an compositionally complex alloy’s variable defect energy landscape, understanding how to describe and characterize microstates is difficult. In this talk, our work that integrates physics informed simulations, machine learning, and dynamic radiation studies elucidates components of fundamental thermodynamic parameters that define microstates with complex kinetic landscapes that might alter this understanding. |
