Abstract Scope |
In molten chloride fast reactors, it’s inevitable that some rare earth fission products may present in fuel or coolant salts. These fission products can react with impurity such as moisture to produce rare earth oxides, which may dissolve and accumulate in molten salts, thus changing molten salt chemistry and shifting structural material corrosion potential. Even worse, they may form insoluble compounds and precipitate to threaten the safe operation of reactors. Therefore, it's of significance to study the solubility of rare earth oxides in molten salts. In the present study, electrochemical techniques were applied to measure oxide solubility in molten chloride salts at different temperatures. UV-Vis spectroscopy technique was used to study the kinetic behavior of oxide speciation. The ultimate objective of the project is to expand the rare earth oxide solubility study and build a comprehensive solubility database. |
