Abstract Scope |
The efficient and inexpensive extraction of Ni and Co from laterite ore is becoming imperative due to the rapidly growing demand for nickel and cobalt driven by electric vehicles (EVs). In this work, powdery Ni-Co-Fe alloy was prepared from laterite via reductive roasting followed by magnetic separation, the grade and recovery rate of nickel and cobalt were 11.98% and 1.89%, respectively, with recoveries of 91.22% and 92.79%.. The obtained powdery alloy was readily dissolvable in sulfuric acid solution at atmospheric pressure, under the conditions of 4.5mol/L H3PO4, 85℃, 60min, L/S ratio of 12mL/g, the extractions of Ni, Co and Fe were 97.6%, 90.8% and 92.3%, respectively. FePO4•xH2O and NixCoyMn1-x-y(OH)2 were prepared after iron precipitation and impurity removal of leaching solution, respectively. The proposed process provides a new method for low-cost and efficient comprehensive utilization of laterite nickel ore. |
