Abstract Scope |
Martensitic transformation and microstructural evolution in NiTi play a vital role in realizing the shape memory effect. To this end, the either issues are studied in superelastic (by martensitic transformation) and shape memory NiTi (by reorientation) under tension and compression by EBSD. Two models, single lattice distortion and classical PTMC, are applied to quantitatively explore martensitic crystallography using Interaction Work (IW). A comparison between the two paths is made, revealing that PTMC provides better predictions in the habit plane, while single lattice distortion offers a more accurate depiction of the transformation/reorientation and textures. The close relationship between the transformation/reorientation and the pre-texture of the parent phase is explained by IW. Additionally, we reveal the evolution of the martensite twin by deformation twin theory with IW. The experimental twins, such as (20-1)M, (130)M, (201)M, and (10-1)M, are explained. The underlying mechanism of the formation of (20-1)M twin is uncovered as well. |
